I don't know if too many of you have been following this but a week or so ago a hacker group hacked into SONY Pictures, releasing thousands of documents and emails. It was all mainly movie related things; Spider-Man rights, Men In Black/21 Jump Street crossover, and other crap. It was an interesting target though. Shoot to a few days ago and the same hacker group threatened America with releasing Seth Rogen and James Franco's new movie "The Interview." For anyone not familiar the movie is basically Rogen/Franco being used by the US government to assassinate the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-Un. And it appears that SONY is taking these threats seriously as it was announced today that they were cancelling the release of "The Interview" which was planned to come out on Christmas. Deadline ReportHow do you guys feel about all of this? I know it's petty and small compared to the rest of the world but when you take a step back it's terrorism winning. Plain and simple. North Korea threatened America and told us to not release the film, and here it is being pulled with no planned release date in site. Honestly though Rogen/Franco announced this movie over a year ago. When the synopsis was first released I knew they would get blowback but I didn't think it would turn to this. If they didn't use Kim Jong-Un's real name I'm sure they would have been fine though. Now? Well we might not ever see this movie in a theater.

Another Deadspin article ( here) It's definitely a fucking bummer. I heard that the intro to the movie pokes fun at the US too. Still, I bet that if another had country made a movie about assassinating Obama, our country would get offended...even if it was in the context of a goofy stoner-comedy. I don't think we would send threats but we would certainly cry about it to the rest of the world Team America is probably just as offensive as this would've been, but since it's puppets people didn't take it to heart as much. I agree that this is definitely letting an organization win in some way. Our country is being bred by the media to live in constant fear and this proves that it is kinda working. Hopefully the movie will leak online or something

I actually hate rogen and franco and this movie idea from the get-go and im actually quite happy it was cancelled. I think rogen and franco kinda suck now and when I first heard about this idea all I could think was, "who cares??", the idea isn't hilarious to me what so ever. Don't just make shit because it's gonna piss a country off, feels like that's the only reason why this was an idea anyway. I think rogen and franco need to get over themselves, nobody cares about your stupid north korea movie, youre not the funniest guys in the world, and you kinda look like a buncha fame/publicity whores. Also god forbid if something did happen at a movie theatre just bc these two twats felt like making a funny picture.
And of course were living in a fear based media driven world, there are also a lot more shitty things going on in the world than there are good things. The shitty things are most interesting and if I were a producer at cbs or fox or nbc I would cover the same stories because that's how you get ratings and that's really the only thing that matters. Also, indifference may be blissful and you can certainly choose to not listen to certain fear based media outlets but I do think there is plenty value in simply listening and learning about some of the tragedies happening today. Lending your thoughts to those who suffer holds value to me, I'd want others to think about me if something terrible happened in my life.

This bums me out, I was looking forward to this a lot. I have an independent movie theater in my town I wonder if they'll still show it. I'm gonna try to talk to some friends who work there and see.

Found this snippet of the film online. Again I gotta say that if this was a parody of Obama the US would definitely not be silent about it.
Tommy I agree to an extent, it is a hacky premise for a film..but what isn't these days?
It's true what you were saying though, ratings are the only things that matter. Everything is a business in the US and I think it's important that we keep that in mind at all the times. I think TV does use scare tactics to keep people watching, and while they do cover some terrible things that should be known throughout the world, they also portray things in a certain light that perpetuates bias and prejudice in society. But we do always have the choice to turn it off at any time. The internet is cool because we can pick our media instead of being spoon-fed whatever is on TV....but I still take most things with a grain of salt

Joe that vid clip is actually pretty hilarious. But you're exactly right if another country did the same we'd definitely have some things to say about it. Probably no hacking or terroristic threats but were talking about north korea, their citizens think that they've won the last 6 world cups and that kim jung shoots 9 'hole in ones' when he golfs I just don't think theres a board room at cbs where a buncha suits sit around with government officials saying "ooooo how do we pump more fear into these bastards?!" I don't think people react to "good" stories like they do to tragedy. Then again I do believe in some aspects of government conspiracy shiz so that scenario could definitely be going down at fox.
